Editing, editing, and more editing

At the end of 2018, I finished final proofreading and editing of the proofs of my memoir. My work on Magical Realism for Non-Believers is now concluded. Whatever sentences and paragraphs and chapters are in those pages will stay that way. After so many years of being able to make changes, it’s a strange feeling to find the text permanent and out of my control.

At the same time, I also finished edits and rewrites on my forthcoming middle-grade novel. That project is still a work in progress and I appreciate the process.

Meanwhile, I’m almost done with the certificate in copy editing offered through UCSD-Extension. This rigorous online program prepares would-be editors to tackle a manuscript and rid it of errors: spelling, punctuation, syntax, flow, and more. I’ve just started taking on freelance copy editing work.
