latina writers represent

I just returned from a lovely weekend in New York where I attended the 3rd Annual Las Comadres Writers Conference (thanks to generous funding from the Jerome Foundation). The conference brings Latino writers together with agents and publishers, providing an amazing venue of support and cheer-leading. The keynote speaker was Esmeralda Santiago, author of the memoir When I Was Puerto Rican, who gave an encouraging talk about her path to becoming a writer and advice for aspiring writers. I met many fascinating and talented people (and survived Brooklyn's subway system).
