like mother, like daughter

My mother figures prominently in my memoir. A mother is, naturally, at the heart of a family story. She is a strong woman and was an influential role model for me. She was never a writer, but she was an artist (albeit an unrecognized one) and a musician (she has perfect pitch and a lovely voice). She raised me in a time of feminism and health-consciousness and was green before green was even a thing. This week her letter to the editor was published in the local paper and I was proud to see her name in print. And to see the important message she is communicating, one that she has reiterated throughout my life.
