As a child, I would sometimes ask my mother about the man who was my father, the man she had married. She told me that they divorced because she wanted to live in Minnesota and he loved Colombia too much to leave it. This oversimplification had satisfied my curiosity as a child, but by age twenty-one, I suddenly wanted to know what kind of power this country had that would make a man choose a place over a person.

Magical Realism for Non-Believers is the story of this journey to discover where I came from and who I was. It is an exploration of what it means to believe in the magic and reality of love and family.
