I love reading novels, but when it comes to writing I find that the truth is so much more interesting than anything I could make up. Every day true things overwhelm me with their metaphorical capabilities, startling poignancy, and ability to astound. We are bombarded every day by sad things and happy things, by small things and big things. And each of those true things can be turned into a sentence or a paragraph or maybe even a whole essay.
