In 1993 Maya Angelou read her poem at Clinton's inauguration. "On the Pulse of Morning" was so stirring to me, as a high school senior. She seemed to be speaking to me, to my generation, to my world. My now-husband and I studied the words side by side, examined the stanzas and we fell in love. For graduation, I gave him a small bound copy of the poem.
Maya Angelou has written hundreds of thousands of words and all of them worthy of remembrance. But it is that poem that I will remember today.
