My first literary success was when I was in fifth grade. A poet from Minnesota's COMPAS program taught poetry and the poem I wrote at age eleven won an award. And up until now, it was my only poetry success. However, a wonderful colleague from the Loft Literary Center's Mentor Series, poet LeRoy Sorenson, helped me transform a little essay into an actual poem and now that poem has been translated into artwork by a St. Catherine University artist. The exhibit, the Poetry Translation Project, featuring my poem as well as others from St. Kate's students and staff, opens Monday, April 7th and runs through April 20th.
