Loft Literary Center's Mentor Series

My participation in the creative nonfiction track of the Loft Literary Center's Mentor Series has come to an end. After a year of soaking in reading, writing, and camaraderie, the winners of the 2009-2010 Mentor Series have grown by leaps and bounds. I owe so much to this amazing opportunity and to the wonderful mentors with whom we worked this year: Shannon Olson, JC Hallman, Philip Bryant, Dinah Lenney, Pablo Medina, and Gene Yang.

The Loft Mentor Series in Poetry and Creative Prose offers twelve emerging Minnesota writers the opportunity to work intensively with six nationally acclaimed writers of prose and poetry. There are two mentors each in the genres of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Four writers in each genre are selected for the program by the mentors through an anonymous competition.

I have also just completed my share of the preliminary reading and judging of applicants for the 2010-2011 Series and look forward to seeing more great writers emerge. Winners will be announced Aug. 15, 2010.
